Makeup Empties #2

I used to post monthly empties posts but I felt they were getting a bit repetitive and only filled with boring products like deodorant and shampoo. I then decided to post only about the actual makeup products I had finished. I only posted one edition of Makeup Empties before I took my blogging break but I did keep all the products I emptied in that time. As a reader I love these types of posts, to see what someone has enjoyed enough to actually finish and whether they would repurchase them.

All of the products in this post were finished in 2014; hopefully I can finish even more in 2015.

Benefit the POREfessional
This primer is designed to ‘fill’ your pores and smooth your skin. I used this as a sort of spot primer, only on my oily spots & larger pores. It lasted ages because of that. I probably wouldn’t repurchase this, as my skin is more in need of an illuminating and hydrating primer. This is a great product though.

SHU UEMURA Tsuya Skin UV Under Base Youthful Radiance Boost
Shu Uemura is a brand that I have really been enjoying discovering. This primer is great for bringing a glow to my skin and helps my makeup last all day. It has a slightly odd smell but isn’t noticeable once foundation is applied. I have already repurchased this (in the limited edition Shupette packaging).

EMBRYOLISSE Lait-Crème Concentre
Though this is technically a moisturiser, it makes a great hydrating primer. I used this constantly during winter; it plumped up my skin and left it feeling smooth and soft. I will repurchase this but I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.

DIOR Diorskin Nude Skin Glowing Makeup
I purchased this on a whim because I felt like trying something different. I ended up really loving this foundation; the finish was perfect, natural looking skin. Coverage was on the lighter side but that worked well with the finish of it. I would repurchase this is the future.

CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup
This is the second bottle of this I have finished. A Holy Grail product, it is just that good. Already repurchased.

NARS Sheer Glow Foundation
I think pretty much every beauty blogger and makeup lover has tried either this or the Sheer Matte foundation from Nars. I liked this foundation but I didn’t love it. I don’t really know why but it isn’t as sheer or glowy as the name would suggest. I wouldn’t repurchase this but I am hanging out for the new Nars foundation to be released this year.

URBAN DECAY Eyeshadow Primer Potion
This is the little sample that came with the original Naked palette. I didn’t really like this primer; it didn’t work as well for me as other brands do. This isn’t actually completely finished but the smell changed so it was time for the bin. I wouldn’t purchase this in full size.

NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base
This is my favourite eye primer and it was a 2014 Favourite. This was a miniature that came with the And God Created the Woman palette. Even being miniature it lasted ages. It is a fantastic eye primer and I highly recommend it. I have already purchased this in full size.

ELLIS FAAS Mascara
This came in the Glossy Box for Net-A-Porter. I found it a very basic mascara, it made my lashes darker but didn’t do anything special length or volume wise. I also found the wand to be very long and flimsy which made it a bit difficult to work with. I would not purchase again.

MAYBELLINE Great Lash Vision in Violet Mascara
I went through a bit of a ‘love affair’ with coloured mascara thanks to an awesome blue Chanel mascara. I purchased this off eBay as it wasn’t available in Australia and I don’t think it ever became available. Which is a good thing as it is horrible product. It did not add any colour to my lashes at all. It went in the bin pretty quickly! I would not repurchase, duh.

MAYBELLINE Mega Plush Volum’ Express Mascara
I liked this mascara but I did find the very bendy/flimsy bristles of the brush a little difficult. If I remember correctly I ended up with the mascara on my lids or under eye area quite easily when applying. I would possibly repurchase this.

MAYBELLINE the Rocket Volum’ Express Mascara
Another eBay purchase and this mascara still isn’t available in Australia. This mascara has a giant brush but the bristles are actually quite short. I really liked this mascara, it made my lashes look really fully and long. I would repurchase this.

CHANEL le Volume de Chanel Mascara
This is probably the only Chanel product I have not been impressed with. I found it left my lashes looking short and clumpy. It is a very intense black though. I would not purchase in full size but I do have another sample to try again in the future (maybe my opinion will change).

GIORGIO ARMANI Eyes to Kill Mascara
OMG! I had totally forgotten about this mascara and how great it is. I loved this little sample! This mascara gave me super black, voluminous and long lashes. I was so sad when it started to dry up. I definitely need to purchase this in the future (once I use up some of my mascara stash).

ESTEE LAUDER Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara
Another mascara that I really enjoyed using. The brush on this mascara is quite conical so the pointier end allows you to get all the lashes in the inner and outer corner. I found this mascara gave me black voluminous lashes. I have another sample to use so I won’t actually be purchasing it anytime soon but I would consider it in the future.

BENEFIT They’re Real! Mascara
I may be the only one who feels this way but I didn’t like this mascara. It didn’t do anything for my lashes. Another mascara that I have another sample but I’m not sure I’ll even bother with it.

YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick in 1 Nude Beige & 8 Fetish Pink
These lipsticks are amazingly pigmented & creamy with the most luxurious packaging. The texture started to change on these so it was ‘quick use it before I loose it situation’. I still have a couple of these lipsticks in different shades but I don’t reach for them as much now because of their divine creaminess – it means they don’t last on the lips. I wouldn't repurchase Fetish Pink but I would Nude Beige as it is such a lovely nude shade that suits me.

CLINIQUE Chubby Stick in 06 Woppin’ Watermelon
I love Chubby Sticks for those days when I want a more natural, soft look. This pink shade was lovely on the lips and the formula is kind to dry lips. I would consider repurchasing in the future but I still have a couple of Chubby Sticks to finish up first.

Tallying up this post and Makeup Empties #1, I finished up 30 products in 2014 (I am including the mascara samples as I find they last almost as long as a normal mascara). Which is pretty sad. I am really hoping to finish up more in 2015 and considering it isn’t even a month in and I have empties, I think I will be successful.

On a bit of a side note: I realised looking at Makeup Empties #1, I haven’t repurchased any of the products I finished. Out of the above products there are only three I have repurchased since finishing and probably only two I would actually repurchase. I have a habit of finishing a product and then trying something else because it could be better than the other product. I also find that I never repurchase lipsticks because I have such a large stash, I can’t justify repurchasing one I have already finished when I have so many more to finish.

Did you finish up many makeup products in 2014? Do you make an effort to finish up products or does it 'just happen'?

  1. WOW you got through so many make up products!! I find skincare, haircare and body care so easy to finish, but hardly ever finish make up (except for mascara) :(
